Area description

The Algarve is Portugal's playground. Sunshine is virtually guaranteed for 6 months of the year, while spring comes early and even in the depths of winter afternoon temperatures usually reach a pleasant 15 deg C (60 deg F). The Western Algarve is ideal for families and much quiter then the more commercial resorts of Villamoura and Albufeira. Much of the traditional Portuguese character is retained here particularly the historic town of Lagos close by.

Summers are hot and sunny but are refreshed by cooling breezes on the coast. July and August are the hottest months. Autumn and winter days are mild, but you will need a jacket in the evening, or just enjoy some of the local Port to keep you warm!

Food is one of the great pleasures of a holiday in the Algarve, with plenty of excellent fresh seafood and locally produced organically grown vegetables full of flavour, not to mention Chicken Peri-Peri grilled on the barbeque outside many restaurants. Prices are very reasonable and you can have fresh grilled seabass for less than 9 euros.
